These are Advanced Certificate programs requiring successful completion of a number of components for graduation. Although components are set, there is flexibility in the design to adjust for each individual student’s level, progress, and goals. MIC offers Business International, Hospitality & Tourism International and Working Holiday programs.

Business and Hospitality & Tourism International Programs

Level Requirements: Intermediate level placement
Study Options: Power only
Duration: 9 – 24 month programs

The Business International and Hospitality International advanced certificate programs represent MIC’s most popular professional language programs (PLP). These are established English language training programs designed to build vocabulary and language skills in a particular field to help students integrate into an international workplace or to transition into further study at higher education facilities such as career colleges or university programs.

By design, students are required to complete 5 specific components from within the ESL program for graduation and certification. These include the following:

1) ESL coursework
2) Specialty ESL coursework – Business/ Hospitality English & Professional Communication
3) Combination ESL coursework – Test prep elective & Internship Prep
4) Work Experience
5) Post work experience coursework

Below are some possible designs. Please note that based on the initial placement level, program lengths are different. This is because of the time required to move through the general ESL program. As well, the work experience varies in length. This is dependent on the job market and work experience opportunities that exist. MIC sets 3 months as a minimum and immigration sets the maximum at 50% of the entire program. Despite the flexibility that exists in program design, all components must be completed for graduation.

ADVANTAGES:
• Practical language training involving current case studies, talks from local professionals,
..educational trips to local businesses, role plays, and research projects.
• Combined with work experience opportunities (see “work experience” section).
• Allow transition into partner school programs (see “pathways and partnerships” section).
• Development of higher level and professional English skills to succeed in International workplaces.

For students with a working holiday visa this course offers flexibility and gives assistance to students looking for a job. Courses are built to suit and generally combine Specialty ESL study in the morning with Internship Prep in the afternoon to better prepare students for a potential English work situation in Canada. However, all study options are available and students can choose to study as they wish. Full-time study is limited to 3 months as part of the regulation of working holiday visas. A key component of this program is that students will receive assistance from the internship coordinator for resume building, job search, and interview practice.

ADVANTAGES:
• Flexible course design allows part
• time or intensive study -Focused instruction on professional language
• Assistance in preparing for and finding a job
• Work Experience available

Work Experience:
Students enrich their educational experience by having the opportunity to gain valuable work experience from our co-operative education employer organizations. The work experience program consists of information sessions, workshops, counseling, work-site monitoring, employer evaluations, and student reports. Students enrolled in the program are registered full-time students who have achieved a grade point average in good standing and have maintained a solid attendance record. For a student to earn an Internship program diploma, he/she must successfully complete academic program and complete their co-op education obligations and work term. Therefore, the co-op component is mandatory for this program.
